From Acceptance To Laughter. These Stress management Tips Teach You Coping Mechanisms.

These stress management tips are extremely important in the fight against aging but, in reality stress is not the problem! Stress can be used as a creative energy to propel you forward to reach new heights. The problem is that we have been indoctrinated into believing that stress is bad for you, when it is actually the fear of being stressed that is doing the damage. If you never give yourself an opportunity to relax and you are always fearful, you will soon find you are in a cycle that is not easy to get out of.

Stress management requires acceptance of the situation 318x217px

Acceptance

Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful. ~Buddha

Accepting the past and moving forward is the key to successful stress management.

Life is a journey and if you can say that you have never failed at anything, you have probably not tried, and therefore missed out on the opportunity to grow and learn the valuable lessons that failure can teach you. If you find it difficult to accept failure you should try, just for the next 24 hours, not to react to life's little irritations. You will find that this acceptance of the small problems in your life will fill you with an energy that will give you the power to learn from your mistakes and move on to greater things.

Stress management requires that you exercise your brain 150x184px

Brain-exercise it!

Ever wondered where it went?

Thousands of geniuses live and die undiscovered - either by themselves or by others. ~Mark Twain

Stress management relies on you to give your brain time off from your normal mental activities. Don’t allow yourself to get into a rut especially as you age. For instance if you have never been a lateral thinker try and do some puzzles that encourage you to think out of the box. Once you get going you will be surprised what you can do, and you will find plenty of resources on the internet that provide puzzles and quizzes.

Stress management requires communication 133x200px

Communication

The cold war?

Sticks and stones are hard on bones

Aimed with angry art,

Words can sting like anything

But silence breaks the heart.

~Phyllis McGinley, "Ballade of Lost Objects," 1954

Your emotions, especially if you don’t put a voice to them, can affect your health and your looks negatively and make stress management difficult. Just about all aspects of your life can be affected by unexpressed emotions, so all you need to do is find a way of releasing them without going overboard and affecting those around you.

Make sure that you communicate with colleagues and loved ones at all times, but if you struggle with your emotions, start by chatting about your day and how you felt about it, and build up to the more important things. Also if you can find a person you trust to role play with you, you will start to feel more comfortable as time passes.

Another alternative is to work out a set of affirmations that you can repeat over and over to yourself, until you feel able to communicate freely with others.

Communication is the key whether at home, at work or out dating, when it comes to attracting people to us. (This link will open in a new window behind this page so minimize me and do come back when you are done.)

Stress management guards against depression 189x200px

antidepressants aren't enough. ~Amy Weintraub

Depression

Depression can be caused by many things and, if you can’t manage your stress levels and suffer with chronic depression, counseling and medication are needed.

In addition, or if you are only mildly depressed, Yoga and relaxation techniques are a great help when it comes to stress management.

I believe that depression is caused by a lack of self love or self esteem and, sometimes, even self loathing! Try to focus more on your strengths instead of dwelling on your faults, and you will begin to find value in yourself.

Early to bed for stress management 200x199px

Early To Bed

Can't get out of bed?

The bed is a bundle of paradoxes: we go to it with reluctance, yet we quit it with regret; we make up our minds every night to leave it early, but we make up our bodies every morning to keep it late. ~Charles Caleb Colton

Your health is largely dependant on the way you live your life and your daily routine. Ayurvedic healthcare believes that early to bed and early to rise is an important factor in stress management and rejuvenating your body and mind. Most Ayurvedic books say that you should get up before dawn but it seems that 6am is widely acceptable. Of course to do this you would need to be asleep by about 10pm.

Stress management and friends go hand in hand 144x166px

Friends

Children don't judge!

If a man does not make new acquaintances as he advances through life, he will soon find himself alone. A man should keep his friendships in constant repair. ~Samuel Johnson

Everyone needs a good support system and the worst thing you can do, if you are finding that stress management is a problem, is to become introverted and start spending too much time alone. You don’t have to have dozens of friends, if you are not that sort of person, but one or two people that you really enjoy spending your time with, will make you feel that your problems are surmountable.

Gratitude is the key to stress management 200x180px

Gratitude

Thank your creator!

Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others. — Cicero (106-43 BC).

Even if you feel that you deserve a better deal, and life is not exactly what you were expecting, you need to show gratitude for what you have. Take time to acknowledge your creator and all the people in your life that you have neglected to thank. Once you get going, you will find that it makes you feel good and you will begin to realize that your life is better than you had imagined and stress management will become a breeze.

laughter is the best medicine for stress management 160x156px

Humour

Laughter is the best medicine!

What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul. ~Yiddish Proverb

Laughing can make you feel physically better and relax you mentally and is an important tool in stress management. After a good bout of laughing you will find that you feel euphoric and you can even forget about your little aches and pains. When you experience a “belly laugh” each fibre of your being pulsates with joy and you will feel completely relaxed. Laughter also brings people together and heals relationships.
