Examine Your Reasons For Wanting Cosmetic Or Plastic Surgery Procedures.

Become informed before you rush into any cosmetic or plastic surgery procedures. We all see ourselves differently what is good for me is not necessarily what is right for you!

So if you have tried everything to plump up those lines, and still feel that a little tweak is in order, I have done research into the various plastic surgery procedures available, and have given you a synopsis, together with details of where more information can be obtained.

First we need to see whether there are any factors that would make it dangerous for you to undergo any of the plastic surgery procedures so have a look at the emotional disorders and physical conditions that may rule out plastic surgery procedures.

Body dismorphic disorder, or BDD

This is a clinically recognized mental disorder and any surgeon worth his salt will refuse to operate on a patient who has been diagnosed with this disorder. Sufferers of BDD obsess about imagined bodily defects, often to such an extent that it affects their daily lives.

Substance addiction

People who are not able to cope with their daily lives without taking mood altering or addictive substances are not good candidates for plastic surgery procedures.

Eating disorders

Plastic surgery would not be recommended for people with eating disorders until the condition has been brought under control, as these people often suffer with a distorted body image and once the condition is under control they may feel that surgery is not necessary.

Smoking

Most surgeons will ask you to stop smoking some weeks before surgery and it is best not to tart again as you will undo all the surgeons good work!

AlcoholYou should stop drinking alcohol for at least two to four weeks before surgery. The consumption of alcohol dries out the skin and causes aging, so if you must resume drinking alcohol after recovery, it is best done in moderation.

Choosing a surgeon

Choosing a surgeon to carry out your plastic surgery procedures is the first and most important step, so let’s first discuss the difference between plastic surgeons and cosmetic surgeons.

Cosmetic surgery is practiced by surgeons from a variety of fields including general surgeons, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, ophthalmologists, dermatologists, otolaryngologists, plastic surgeons. Cosmetic surgery procedures are mainly learned through ongoing training, and experience after a surgeon’s residency.

Plastic surgeons are certified to do both cosmetic surgery procedures and reconstructive procedures but board certification as a plastic surgeon does not necessarily prove more training or experience than that of board-certified surgeons registered as cosmetic surgeons.

Sounds complicated, I know, but the bottom line is choose carefully and don’t just go by which board certification the surgeon has!

Before deciding on your surgeon, check on the following;

•Check his/her credentials and board certification in the specific area that you are interested in.

•Find out about the risks involved, and ask for references from previous clients.

•Ask to see photographs and check on how often the surgeon has performed the procedure that you have chosen.

Discuss any illnesses and medications, including natural medications, with your surgeon.

Ask about costs but don’t base your entire decision on cost. Most importantly do not make a decision until you are 100% happy with your final choice.

When you have made your final choice stop and think again! Ask yourself the following questions;

•What is motivating me?

•Are my expectations realistic?

•Can I handle the pain?

•How bruised will I look after the operation?

•Do I really understand the procedure I have chosen?

•Do the benefits outweigh the risk?

•Are my expectations of the lasting quality of the procedure reasonable?

Remember that the operation will turn back the clock, but it won’t stop you aging!

Before you decide on going under the knife, have a look at the non surgical procedures and laser surgery.

If you have made the decision to go ahead with surgery we need to discuss the various plastic surgery procedures on offer, so have a look at face lift surgery and body lift.
