Remember that inflammation is closely linked to aging as it often occurs in your joints making it difficult for you to move. It also shows up within your organs and on your skin. It is characterized by redness, warmth, swelling and pain. Inflammation Definition Inflammation is a response to a number of different factors, including infection, a foreign body or injury, decreased or compromised blood flow, extreme heat or cold, or radiation. When you are suffering with inflammation, your immune system rushes to your body’s defence by bringing plasma proteins and white blood cells to the injured area to initiate tissue repair You will most likely have, experienced this acute inflammation with symptoms like fever or skin abscesses. In some diseases, however, your body’s immune system can trigger an inflammatory process when there is no infection or foreign invader to fight off. In these autoimmune diseases, such as some forms of arthritis, the body’s normally protective immune system causes damage to its own tissues. Chronic inflammation definition In many cases the inflammation is fairly low grade and ongoing(chronic) and no symptoms are experienced. This process can last for many years without being noticed, until heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s or one of the other auto-immune diseases shows up. Chronic inflammation can be the result of an immune system that is malfunctioning for some reason or, possibly, due to your body attempting to heal its self. Your diet, and taking the right supplements, can assist with inflammation and can therefore help the following diseases of the internal organs:
•An asthma attack may be caused by the inflammation of the bronchi (small air tubes that transport air to the lungs)
•Nephritis may be caused by inflammation of the kidneys
•Colitis may be caused by inflammation of the large intestine causing cramps and diarrhea
•Myocarditis is caused by inflammation of the heart and may cause shortness of breath or leg swelling
